Lil Wayne feat Drake, Kanye West feat. Lupe Fiasco & Pharrell

I wonder if they setup a little studio for Weezy in prison and all of the Young Money Staff have visiting privileges. "Right Above It" has during the course of only one week all ready become the hottest song in hip hop. The track has Weezy and protege Drake a.k.a. Drizzy sharing verses on a wicked synth friendly beat produced by Kane Beats. The song was first aired on DJ Funk Master Flex's show after Weezy called him from Rikers Island. There was time for them to chat about his upcoming EP "I'm Not A Human Being" which Wayne mentioned he had recorded right before he went to prison. He also mentioned how he was in fact staying in close contact with his Young Money crew (Drake, Nicki Minaj, Mack Maine).
During "Right Above It" there is no mention of his going to prison or anything unusually anti-authoritative; rather another summer happy I'm Ballin style Weezy track that we have all grown to love. It's Weezy style auto tuned chorus and Weezy style lyrics on the second verse "guns turn you boys into pussies/sex change/and i smoke till i got chest pains/and you ni**as know i rep my game like Jesse James." Since Wayne's been twittering and ergo being talked about frequently in the media, it really doesn't feel like he's been incarcerated at all. The song is the first single off the "I'm Not A Human Being" EP set to come out on Weezy's birthday Sept. 27. He'll be 28.

Kanye West is a natural born trend setter. Despite the constant negative controversy surrounding the man he has always remained a huge figure in the hip hop scene and it's obvious why. Kanye thinks outside the box; during an era where gangster rap was the norm he was dressing in multi coloured polo shirts and rapping about college and his family. He's been known to sample some less than ordinary tracks, including his most recent "Power" from King Crimson's "21st Century Schizoid Man." With 2007's "Can't Tell Me Nothing Mixtape" Kanye sampled a song from one of his most beloved influences, Thom Yorke. In a recent statement Kanye told the press that Yorke and Trent Reznor were the main inspirations for the new record, which is apparently no longer called "Good Ass Job."

It's a shame, that title is awesome.

2007's "Us Placers" features Kanye, Pharell and some of the dopest rhyming from Lupe Fiasco on a slightly tweaked version of Yorke's "The Eraser." After the first verse Yorke's chorus from "The Eraser" remains with Lupe spittin "And they love it, and they love it" in the background. Sick. It's incredible how easily Yorke's music can be transformed into mind boggling hip hop. Since this track was released People Under The Stairs and Chiddy Bang have done their own rendition of Yorke's "Reckoner" from Radiohead's "In Rainbows." Both are fantastic. Though no one wants to give him any credit, Kanye is in his own words in fact "a musical genius." The fact that Radiohead, amongst the list of things Kanye loves so much like his mama, his music or fishtsticks, is right up there with them only earns him more respect in my books.
