On his most recent EP, which is also the soundtrack for Quentin Dupieux's movie "Rubber," renown electro house DJ Mr. Oizo has teamed up with fellow French producer, Justice's Gaspard Auge. The first single "Rubber," is representative more of Mr. Oizo's previous works than anything from Justice. Oizo's beat friendly, computer generated, mechanical house music has become his signature style famous all across the world. Traces of all these components can be found in "Rubber:" the flat beat, the meticulously calculated sounds, the menacing atmosphere apparent in the foreground. The song is in many ways experimental, attempting to bridge the gap between progressive and pop house in a mere four minutes and ten seconds. It ascends Oizo and Auge into a modern juncture in their creative careers but also leaves quite a bit of room for interpretation.
Brazilian dance pop outfit Kamei's remix of "Rubber" definitely brings something new to the table; it's vibrant, exciting, upbeat and dance infectious. It seems more relevant for the dance floor; unlike the original there isn't a single moment where the beat stops. While Mr. Oizo's and Auge's original is intricate and complex, Kamei's remix lightens up the mood, transforming the song into a happy dance/pop track that's only intention is to rock the house. Fake Blood - I Think I Like It (Tommy Sunshine & Figure EC$TACY Remix)

Honestly, what's not to like about Fake Blood's "I Think I Like It?" Immensely enjoyable from first listen, "I Think I Like It" could have ruled the nineties just as its ruled the dance floor since its 2009 release. It's hair raising, disco friendly exterior mixed with repetitive "I Think I Like It" lyrics is as pop compelling as Vanilla Ice's "Ice, Ice Baby" or Salt N Pepa's "Push It." British DJ Theo Keating, the brains and brawn of this new project, has a history of combining genres whether under his Touche moniker or as the other half of The Wiseguys. Fake Blood's first EP, "Fix Your Accent" is brimming with 80s disco, progressive house, and mischievous pop tunes. I welcome any excuse to hear this song again in its original or remixed form. Tommy Sunshine and Figure EC$TACY have succeeded in creating a worthwhile remix of the song by not altering it significantly but still adding their own colourful brand of electro pop to the mix. The remix is even more 80's influenced than the original, if possible, combining the brightest aspects of funk and disco. The remix adds never before heard vocals "i think i lke it baby hold me tight in the heat of the disco night;" so appropriate. Towards the ending, the words "disco fever" are repeated over and over. Both versions are perfect as the soundtrack to your next party, enjoy.
