Gucci Mane - Lemonade
You're in the deep South, on the front porch in a rocking chair; henessee on the rocks in one hand and a fat blunt in the other. Take a few puffs on that blunt, go out to your backyard and everyone you know is there having a bbq, drinking lemonade. This is the visual image that Gucci Mane's "Lemonade" insists upon you. The Atlanta born convicted felon/rapper had all ready acquired a widespread following before spitting a few verses on Big Boi's "Shine Blockas." Since than, shit's just blown up for Gucci. "Lemonade" appears on his last mixtape "The State vs Radric Davis." The lyrics reek of classic country swagger: "Lemonade diamond bracelet put it in your face, lemonade diamond earrings I wore yesterday,I'm pimpin where I'm winnin that's just how i'm chillin,im smokin grits and selling chickens Corvette painted lemon." Gucci obviously likes yellow like Paul Wall likes candy paint on his Chevrolet Impalas. Amazingly enough, dream-pop outfit Beach House covered the song live. That must have been a wicked performance.

Freddie Gibbs - Oil Money
Dan Auerbach has been all about the hip hop collaborations. Last year's Blakroc project featured guess rappers like Mos Def, Jim Jones, RZA, Raekwon and Ludacris. On the most recent Black Keys record, "Brothers", mastermind producer Danger Mouse worked on two of the tracks, which are coincidentally the best ones on the album. Auerbach's voice sounds even more suitable accompanying dirty hip hop beats with a loud bass. Freddie Gibbs, who came out last year with his "Miseducation of Freddie Gibbs" Mixtape recently released his first EP, "Str8 Killa." He sure was able to gather a wicked ensemble to join him on the first single, "Oil Money," including Chuck Inglish, Chip Tha Ripper, Bun B and Dan Auerbach on the chorus. The sound is obviously blues influenced, exercising that graceful Southern charm. Freddie Gibbs is a rare breed in today's hip hop scene; a conscientious gangster rapper. Wow, there really hasn't been anyone doing that since 2pac was alive. Props to Gibbs, who is releasing another EP later this year entitled "Devils Place."
