Memoryhouse (Millionyoung Remix), Florence & The Machine (Jamie T Remix)

Millionyoung obviously has a knack for remixing obscure glo-fi artists. Memoryhouse's "To The Lighthouse," off their debut EP "The Years," can be a bit of a tease at times. It conjures the most diminutive touch of electro pop and dance but it doesn't quite go all the way there. It's euphoric and tantalizing nature inspires relaxation and meditation; the rest of the EP is equally chilled out and tranquil. But one with a keen sense of melody could tell that there is serious potential for this song to go above and beyond and bring people together in harmonious dance.
Millionyoung has done just that. His remix of "To The Lighthouse" adds more than a bass heavy beat; it evokes synths and computerized electro pop sounds; Millionyoung miraculously transforms this into a club banger that you can also chill out and smoke a joint to. To ensure that he keeps the same amount of "chill," Millionyoung does not alter the distorted hazy vocals giving this remix varied elements of chillwave, dance, pop, glo-fi, heck even a smidget of house. And it sounds fuckin awesome.

This was one of my personal favorites from 2009. But really, anything Jamie T is involved in is usually badass. His remix of Florence & The Machine's "Rabbit Heart" is fantastic: it's more hip hop, it's more pop, it's more provoking and endearing than the original. The piano melodies, the harps, the elevated beat, Florence Welch's powerful voice, the only thing missing is Jamie T spitting a verse. The song was released on the "Rabbit Heart EP" which also contained Led Zero's lengthier remix and a B-side, "Are You Hurting The One You Love?" After the positive response she received for her debut album, Florence has all ready become a housename brand. Talks of a second album have all ready been confirmed all over the blogosphere; Florence claims this record will be "dancey but dark as well." The album is set to come out early 2011. Stoked.
