Best Coast - Boyfriend

Best Coast has gained a lot of attention for a band whose debut LP "Crazy For You" only comes out next week via Mexican Summer. Thanks to three EP's, various singles, and even a Converse sponsored song with Kid Cudi and Rostam Batmanglij of Vampire Weekend, indie heads were able to get a taste of this sunny lo-fi surf band from California. "Boyfriend," the first single off "Crazy For You" doesn't disappoint. Thanks to Bethany's repetitive, charming lyrics: "There's nothing worse than sitting all alone at home/And waiting waiting waiting waiting waiting by the phone/I hope that he's at home waiting by his phone/I wonder if he knows that I want him", "Boyfriend" sounds like a mix of garage rock and pop. While it certainly follows the recent trend of California surf & noise-pop outfits like Wavves or Dum Dum Girls, Best Coast is more cohesive: they're more sun and less noise. Thanks to Bethany's distinctive voice and emotionally strung lyrics, the band has made quite a name for themselves.

I am very much looking forward to the July 27 release date.

Just D.
