Erykah Badu, Kid Cudi & Drake

Each Monday, offSTREAM will be posting some fresh hip hop for your listening pleasure.

Erykah Badu's highly acclaimed "Window Seat" validates the notion that Badu is still in her prime, over a decade after she started producing her own particular brand of r&b. This song is no different; the combination of soul, r&b, and that unique voice of hers makes this track equally likeable to her previous works. The video has created quite a stir in the media as, besides the fact that Badu strips butt ass naked by the end of it, it is highly controversial, mind you not as controversial as M.I.A.'s "Born Free."

When word first leaked that Kid Cudi's sophomore album was dropping this year, only one year after he released the revolutionary "Man On The Moon: The End Of Day," it created a media frenzy of sorts. Cudi could have featured Kanye or Lil Wayne on his debut LP, but rather, decided to distinguish himself from the rest of the hip hop world and worked with MGMT and Ratatat instead. "REVOFEV" (Revolution of Evolution) the first single off "Man On The Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager" puts other hip hop singles to shame. The beat is beyond grimy, (the use of piano always wins me over) and the vocals showcase Cudi's signature style of singing. One can only hope that the rest of the album will be equally sweet.

With "Up All Night" Drake has coined the sickest new phrase in hip hop this year: "Tootles to you bitches." Due to the complexity of the beat, and the fact that Nicki Minaj, the hottest new sensation since, well Drake, is on this track, this is definitely the best rap song of 2010 thus far. Drake tears it up lyrically but Minaj destroys it. "Fuck I like ho? I look like yes and you look like no." Boi-1da has really surpassed himself on this track. It stands out, but more importantly, it's subtle when it needs to be, despite how aggressive this beat is there is no doubt that the vocals make this track. In fact, the vocals KILLL this track.
Big Tune.
