Miike Snow, Arcade Fire

DJs Bloodshy & Avant are notorious for producing songs for pop icons like Britney Spears and Kylie Minogue but they've really surpassed their talents on their most recent project with Swedish songwriter/singer Andrew Wyatt as Miike Snow.
Miike Snow has gained enormous popularity since last year's synth powerhouse "Animal" annihilated the Billboard charts.
The rest of the LP was equally loveable: electronic music with equal components pop and house and Wyatt's sleek voice was the perfect recipe for a monster record. Their first song since the album, "Bille Holiday," is a complete change in tempo. Darker, haunted melodies produced by the duo, in addition to what sounds like a full band providing the instrumentals. Equally enjoyable as anything else they've released. Kudos.

Talk about highly anticipated. After the release of "Funeral," their debut LP, Arcade Fire had claimed their spot in the Indie Hall of Fame, and also became the most talked about Canadian act since Bryan Adams. Their followup to "Funeral," "Neon Bible," was equally successful; though not a concept album like "Funeral" it kept the same boisterous use of instruments, and provided anthems like "Intervention" and "Keep The Car Running" that became instant classics. The band has been known to be quite charitable and just a few weeks ago they stated that if they could raise a million dollars for Haiti, they would donate a million dollars of their own as well. The first song released off their third and most anticipated LP, "The Suburbs" is a more subtle lead single than singles like "Wake Up," or "No Cars Go." Don't let its charming folk ambience fool you; the premise is set on wars and lament in Western suburbia. Win Butler's passionate delivery makes this track another masterpiece. Arcade Fire, Merge Records' biggest seller, is setting the stage for Canadian bands in today's music scene. Americans beware.
