The Montreal indie ensemble Karkwa were reportedly shocked when they received word their recent LP Les Chemins De Verre had been nominated for the prestigious Polaris prize, rewarded to Canadian independent bands. This years nominees include fellow francophones Radio Radio, who released an equally likeable hip hop LP this year (see "Tomtom"), Broken Social Scene, Caribou, Owen Pallet, Besnard Lakes, Dan Mangan, Shad, and Tegan And Sara. It's a tough call, should be Owen Pallet or Caribou, but feels like it will be Besnard Lakes or Dan Mangan. Regardless, Karkwa's "Marie Tu Pleures" is a great folk song, with lovely vocals, and soothing harmony. Check out a great live version below
